Key Finding

This study found that upper cervical rotation measured by the flexion-rotation test decreases with age.

Abstract

This study found that upper cervical rotation measured by the flexion-rotation test decreases with age.

EasyAngle® was used to quantify changes in cervical rotation across different age groups.

Methods

Cross-sectional study measuring upper cervical rotation using the flexion-rotation test with EasyAngle® in 150 participants across different age groups (20-70 years).

Results

Upper cervical rotation decreased significantly with age (p < 0.001). Each decade of life was associated with approximately 3-4 degrees reduction in rotation.

Conclusion

The flexion-rotation test using EasyAngle® demonstrates age-related changes in upper cervical rotation. This has implications for establishing age-appropriate normative values.
